| The
government announced on the 6th that it has completed the selection of 1043
innovative growth companies that will lead Korea. The Financial Services Commission, along with 12 government departments, selected the 'Innovative Enterprise National Representative 1000' from July 2020, and selected the final 1043 companies through 5 rounds of screening. Twelve ministries with high understanding of each industry sector, such as flagship manufacturing and information and communication technology (ICT), prepared selection criteria considering the characteristics of each industry sector and collected opinions from the industry. By department, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has the most with 253. Ministry of SMEs and Startups (207), Ministry of Science and ICT (167), Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (69), Ministry of Health and Welfare (69), and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (68) followed. More than 44% of the total companies are early stage companies with less than 7 years of business history, and more than 92% are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Financial Services Commission provided 3,417 financial support to 660 companies. Policy financial support such as loans, guarantees, and investments has reached a cumulative amount of 9.5 trillion won, and non-financial support such as private follow-up investment attraction opportunities and consulting is also being provided. The Financial Services Commission said, “In the future, each ministry plans to evaluate the technological innovation efforts, future growth potential, and financial and non-financial performance of selected innovative growth companies on a semi-annual basis to operate a more substantial system.” We will introduce a system to select new innovative growth companies, excluding them from the selected companies.” Reporter Kim Min-young mykim@etnews.com |
